Nikolai Domashenko, the creator of these works, is a former instructor of drawing, painting, and composition at the Irkutsk School of Arts. He first turned to book illustration in the late 1960s.

The artist employs an intriguing technique known as drypoint: with a needle he incises the image on a polished wooden block, rolls ink over the design, and then pulls a print on white paper.
