Olga Levina is a St. Petersburg–based artist with a style that’s unmistakably her own. In 2016 she produced several black-and-white illustrations for The Master and Margarita, and two years later she took another run at the subject—this time in a different manner, with a bold emphasis on red. (Naturally, our selection includes all her pieces, both the earlier ones and the later.) Olga posts her Bulgakov illustrations on Instagram with the hashtag #булгаковголовногомозга (e.g. Bulgakov cerebral syndrome)—we approve this term; in fact, we’re similarly afflicted.
