Gennady Novozhilov (1936–2007) was a well-known Soviet and Russian artist, animator, writer, and journalist. In 1953, he enrolled in animator courses at Soyuzmultfilm (where, incidentally, Yuriy Norshtein, the author of Hedgehog in the Fog, also studied). Until 1961, he worked actively as an animator. After 1961, he also worked, but only sporadically. Gennady Dmitrievich was best known as an illustrator of literary works. He illustrated works by Pushkin, Gogol, Tolstoy, Turgenev, and also the Strugatsky brothers, Voinovich, and, of course, Bulgakov.
By the way, Gennady Novozhilov is considered to be the first artist to illustrate The Master and Margarita.
