Danila Igorevich Zhirov was born in Moscow in 1950. One year after his birth, the Moscow State University for the Humanities named after Sholokhov was founded—the institution where Danila Igorevich would later study. And, characteristically, he studied not just anything, but the craft of working with icons (to be precise, he trained as an icon restorer), which is easily discernible in his style. Note the very interesting technique of his works: nothing more than canvas, levkas (a traditional material of icon painting), and oil.
