Soviet and Russian painter Yuri Ryzhik created several illustrations for Bulgakov’s novel in the early 1990s. Unfortunately, as often happens with artists from the pre-digital era, not all of his works from this series are available online (and I haven’t even been able to find out how many illustrations are in the series in total). For now, we can take some consolation in the fact that these works occasionally appear at auctions, so we can hope for pleasant discoveries in the future. Meanwhile, here’s what I was able to find (for completeness, I’ve included preliminary sketches for some of the illustrations – after all, our site aims to be an academic edition 😉).
