Marina was born in Siberia, Russia, but has spent most of her life in Latvia (she now lives in Michigan, USA). She trained at the Latvian State Academy of Arts and the University of Latvia. Her prints are executed in etching, mezzotint, aquatint, and drypoint. What interests us here, of course, are her Bulgakov prints.
The back‑story began with Aleksandr Zhukov, an ardent admirer of The Master and Margarita. For the author’s birthday Zhukov decided to commission a skilled graphic artist to illustrate his favorite novel—in order to publish an edition of just two copies. He chose Marina Terauds (then Maksutova). Work on the twenty‑one‑plate series lasted a full year.
(Many thanks to Alexander Korvet for bringing these works to my attention, and to Alexander aka Unmodern Person for publishing them on his website in good quality.)
